What I'm Reading Wednesday - Dog Stories, Shadow Kiss, The Wrath and the Dawn, and Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban

It's been awhile, and you can blame the start of the school year for that!

Dog Stories by James Herriot

I've always loved cat stories, so I bought dog stories from amazon. It's the first non-digital book I've bought in awhile. It was pretty good, but definitely not as good as Cat Stories. 

Shadow Kiss by Richelle Mead

Third book, read it, still loved it. The ending, though. That ending made me have to put the series away for awhile before I go on. 

The Wrath and the Dawn

I'm reading this one right now and really liking it, even though I HATE not knowing what's really going on!!

Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban by J. K. Rowling (audio)

Yup, still working my way through the series again. Actually, I'm listening to this as I type :).

What I'm Reading Wednesday - Cat Stories, Vampire Academy, Frostbite, The Scorch Trials, and Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets

I skipped a week so I have quite a few books to post today!

Cat Stories by James Herriot

This was one of my favorite books growing up, and I decided to reread it last week. The stories were just as charming and heart-warming as I remembered.

Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead

I'm way behind on this train, and decided to finally see what all the fuss was about. I see it! I finished this book in just a few days and immediately started the next one. 

Frostbite by Richelle Mead

Sometimes the second book in a series sucks compared to the first. This was not one of those times. Again, I finished this in a few days and had trouble putting it down. You should have seen the look on my face when my kindle died while I was reading this on the beach. So sad. 

The Scorch Trials by James Dashner

The plan was to continue working my way through the Vampire Academy series. However, when I went to see Paper Towns on Tuesday with my sister, the preview for The Scorch Trials came on and I had to hunker down and plug my ears so that nothing was spoiled. After that experience I realized it was time to finally pull this one out of my virtual to-read pile. 

Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets by J. K. Rowling (audio)

The great thing about audio books and beach vacations is that I can lay back on the beach with my eyes closed and still read a good book. I just have to be careful not to fall asleep and miss something!

I actually haven't started this one yet since I finished UNTOLD this morning. My coworker's daughter recommended it to me and I'm a sucker for dystopian. 

Throw Out Fifty Things by Gail Blanke

Haven't started this one either! I'm kind of bored with THE ART OF NON-CONFORMITY so I'm switching to this for now. 

Hashimoto's Thyroiditis by Isabella Wentz

I've put this book down for way too long, it's time to finish.

As I said a few posts ago I've been craving Harry Potter, and the movies just weren't doing it for me. Back to the books it is!

What I'm Reading Wednesday - Unspoken, You Can Buy Happiness, and Death by Food Pyramid

I'm writing to you from CAMT 2015 in Houston!

Unspoken by Sarah Rees Brennan

I joined a book club and this is the first book we're reading. I don't think I would have heard of it otherwise! I am LOVING this main character's voice. She's funny. Not only do I laugh at her weird jokes and phrases, but the other characters laugh and it feels totally natural. Plus there's some great mystery and bad boy tension, as well as a little dab of supernatural. Mmmm. 

You Can Buy Happiness (and It's Cheap) by Tammy Strobel

Not the best how-to minimalist book, but the anecdotes keep me inspired and in the minimalist mindset. 

Death by Food Pyramid by Denise Minger

I'm not reading this one as much as the minimalist book, mostly because it's a little heavy on the technical side for me to read before bed. However, I've already learned a lot of fascinating facts about the politics that went into creating the food pyramid. 

No audio book this week because I've had a sudden Harry Potter craving and put the first one on hold at the library. Now I'm waiting...

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince by J. K. Rowling (audio)

I finished this book this week. I loved being able to listen to it as I began to put my classroom together. 

By the way, I'm still updating my word count on the bar to the right every day. My goal is to reach 40,000 words written in July and August by August 31st!

I am writing this post from a Starbucks at Target, because I've suddenly found myself without internet for a week :(. I expect I'll get a lot of reading done. 

If I Stay by Gayle Forman

I'll admit I haven't really gotten that far into this one, I've been more focused on reading It Starts With Food this week. But since I finished that this morning hopefully I'll have more time for this one. 

It Starts With Food by Dallas & Melissa Hartwig

Just finished this morning! This is a reread for me, however this time I'm actually doing the whole 30 and not just considering it. Day 9 and I'm already starting to feel like I have more energy. We'll see. 

Write Your Novel In A Month by Jeff Gerke

Trying to finish this one quick in preparation for Camp Nanowrimo. I've decided it's just the thing to kick me out of this writing rut I've fallen into (aka I feel like my writing will never be as good as my favorite authors' and therefore I just give up trying. Not good.)

This has been a savior since I don't have internet! This morning I just sat on the couch, snuggled up with my dog and a cup of coffee, crocheting and listening to Harry Potter. While it was storming outside. It was pretty amazing and cozy.

My audio version of this expired a week or two ago but I finally got another copy so I can finish it now!

Prince Caspian by C.S. Lewis (audio)

My audio book for the week :). This series is much easier to get from the library than Harry Potter.

Somehow, during breaks from school/work my reading always seems to fall to the side. What ever happened to my childhood summer days spent lying in bed and reading for hours? Oh yeah. The internet. That happened.

Ohhhh myyyyy goddddd. Even though the first chapter of this book technically broke the rule about dumping background info it was amazing. I had a really hard time finding a place to stop last night so I could get some sleep. 

The Transfer by Veronica Roth

This is a short story, so really I've already finished it. I loved getting to see more of Four's background and psyche. 

Plot Versus Character by Jeff Gerke

I can't wait to finish this book so that I can work back through it and really flesh out my characters and plot.

A Light in the Attic by Shel Silverstein

I'm working on a poetry unit with a fourth grade class right now, so I've been getting back into the poetry I loved when I was young.

Finally got this one back! I listened to it in the car on the way to class this morning; best way to wake up in my opinion, besides coffee.

The Maze Runner by James Dashner

I just started this one, so I'm still completely confused, but I like the writing style so far!

The First 50 Pages by Jeff Gerke

Mmm, I do love me some writing advice. I seem to consume these books faster than any others. This book has given me a lot to think about in terms of my WIP, and I can't wait to get another one of Jeff's books, Plot Versus Character, to see what insights it has for the development of my protagonist.

Free Four by Veronica Roth

I also read this short story a few days ago. It was extremely interesting to read a scene from Divergent in a different perspective, and it gave me an idea. Though TGITP is only told from my protagonist's POV, it might be helpful for me to write some key scenes from other characters' POVs in order to get some new insights into them and into what's going on around them.

Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone by J.K. Rowling

I haven't done much driving in the past few days (darn wisdom teeth) so I'm still working on this audio book. I expect I'll start going through these much faster when school starts again next week (hellooo commuting).
