What I'm Reading Wednesday - The Primal Blueprint, Sharp Objects, The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, Feeling Good, and Black Ants and Buddhists

Sorry it's been awhile, I've been super busy!

The Primal Blueprint by Mark Sisson

I'm going primal/paleo on Friday! I finally got my hands on this book (through the library of course) so I'm reading up to get myself psyched for the change. Actually, I'm listening to a webinar about sugar's effect on insulin levels as I type...

Sharp Objects by Gillian Flynn

While this isn't one of those "I can't put it down!" books for me, I do find it entertaining, and it's slowly hooking me more and more.

The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe by C.S. Lewis (audio)

I haven't read this one since I was a little girl and my mom read it to me and my sister before bed. So really I've never actually read it before now. I liked it a lot, though the christian elements were way more obvious to me now.

Feeling Good by David D. Burns

Still trudging through this one...

Black Ants and Buddhists by Mary Cowhey

...same.

What I Wrote This Week

Sunday
I wrote a scene from Gilmore Girls in which Lorelai is arguing with her mother, in order to work on my dialogue skills.

The Rest of the Week
ABSOLUTELY NOTHING.

I can't wait until school's out so I can spend more time writing.

(No, that's an excuse. I had plenty of time to write. I just need to make it a priority actually sit down and do it).

What I'm Reading Wednesday - This Is How I Find Her, Feeling Good, Black Ants and Buddhists, and The Whipping Boy

This Is How I Find Her by Sara Polsky

I've heard great things about this one and loved the first few paragraphs; I just started reading it.

The Whipping Boy by Sid Fleischman

My new read aloud with my third graders! This one is hard - the chapters are short but the vocabulary and concepts take a lot of time to talk about.

What I'm Reading Wednesday - Twisted, Feeling Good, Black Ants and Buddhists, and Shiloh

Twisted by Laurie Halse Anderson

Wintergirls was sooooooo good that I decided to read another Laurie Halse Anderson book. I started it last night.

Shiloh by Phyllis Reynolds Naylor

My third graders and I are on Chapter 13! They're starting to wonder whether Marty and his family will give Shiloh back to Judd.

What I'm Reading Wednesday - Wintergirls, Feeling Good, Black Ants and Buddhists, See Me After Class, and Shiloh

Wintergirls by Laurie Halse Anderson

I've put The Raven Boys aside for awhile and picked this one up. I'm loving it. Is there a genre that's the opposite of magical realism? Because that's how this book feels to me. Everything is dreamlike and strange, but only through the eyes of the narrator, Lia.

See Me After Class by Roxanna Elden

...same...hey, it's been a long (busy) week ;).

Shiloh by Phyllis Reynolds Naylor

My third graders and I are on Chapter 7! They're starting to wonder whether Marty's lies are okay or not, and if he will get caught soon.

What I'm Reading Wednesday - The Raven Boys, Feeling Good, Black Ants and Buddhists, See Me After Class, and Shiloh

The Raven Boys by Maggie Stiefvater

I don't know if it's because of spring break, the fact that I'm reading this book in hardcover instead of on my kindle, or the book itself but I'm really struggling to get into this book. Maybe it will fare better this week.

Feeling Good by David D. Burns

Unfortunately this book puts me to sleep when I read it right before bed (which is my prime reading time) so it's slow going.

Black Ants and Buddhists by Mary Cowhey

Starting to read this one again! Especially now that I'm taking over more subjects in my student teaching, this book is really helping me develop my outlook as well as pedagogy.

See Me After Class by Roxanna Elden

This book is pretty much an easy read that helps me vent. As the author put it, it's "hard liquor for the teacher's soul". I don't agree with all of the attitudes she has toward teaching but it makes me feel better about my mistakes as a student teacher.

Shiloh by Phyllis Reynolds Naylor

This is my current read aloud with my third graders. I remember reading it in elementary school, it's such a sad book. I don't remember the ending though, so I'm excited to read it again! I just hope I don't cry in front of my students.
